Dr Richard Tee
MBBS, PhD, FRACS (Plast)
‘Dr Tee specialises in restoring function and relieving pain in the hand, wrist and upper limb. Whether you are facing a traumatic injury, a nerve condition or a complex tissue defect, his aim is to help you regain strength, mobility and confidence.’
Dr Tee is a Plastic Reconstructive & Hand Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society (AHSS). Fellowship trained across Australia, Taiwan and Sweden in Hand and Microsurgery.
His primary focus lies in Hand Surgery and Microsurgical Reconstruction.
Hand & Wrist Surgery Dr Tee is extensively trained and experienced hand surgeon that deals with various conditions of the hand, wrist and nerves of the upper extremities. He applied his technical skills from microsurgery to the management of various challenging conditions.
Microsurgery Dr Tee completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Tissue Engineering and Microsurgery at the University of Melbourne under the mentorship of Professor Wayne Morrison, an international pioneer of microsurgery in Australia.
Microsurgery involves using specialised instruments and operating microscopes to repair or reconnect very small blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic channels. This allows surgeons to transplant healthy tissue from one part of the body to another to restore form and function after trauma, cancer surgery, or severe tissue loss.
Dr Tee’s expertise combines:
A detailed understanding of complex human anatomy and blood supply
Advanced microsurgical techniques for blood vessel, nerve, and lymphatic repair
Tissue transplantation and reconstruction
Knowledge of biomaterials and tissue-engineering strategies to augment his reconstruction
This skill set allows him to reconstruct delicate and complex areas of the body with precision, restoring appearance, movement, and quality of life.
Dr Tee have been recognized with multiple awards, including
Surgeon as Educator award (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons),
Emmett’s Prize for Best Scientific Paper (Australian Society and New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons)
Smith and Nephew’s Stuart Pegg’s prize (Australia and New Zealand Burns Association Annual Scientific Meeting, ANZBA)
International Travelling Hand Surgery Fellow, American Society for the Surgery of the Hand (ASSH)
Dr Tee has trained internationally across Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Sweden, learning from world-renowned experts in their respective fields.
